What: PROTEST RALLY

When: FRIDAY, APRIL 28, 2006 10 AM

We are demanding that the Federal government put a stop to their intimidation of the immigrant community and cease the immigration raids immediately.

· Volunteer Opportunity: Edward James Olmos 4th Annual Latino Book and Family Festival (DATE changed to SUNDAY, May 7, 2006) JIFM will have a display table and coordinate a Panel- WE NEED YOUR HELP! WE NEED AT LEAST 10 VOLUNTEERS.

Southwest Regional Youth Conference-Phoenix, Arizona

The Southwest Regional Youth Conference in Phoenix, Arizona was hosted by the Center for Community Change, an organization under the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM). JIFM was contacted to represent Texas and five bright young ladies from across Texas flew to the "hot" state of Arizona, a state critical to the immigration movement.

The purpose of the trip was to receive more information on:

• Immigration and the DREAM Act
• Guidance on Advanced Organizing
• Coalition Building
• Electoral Programs
• Network with other other organizations
• Group experiences
• How to create a regional structure and communication between states
• History of FIRM and who is involved
• Leadership Development

The other states represented were: California, Nevada, Idaho, Utah, and Arizona

JIFM stood out because we facilitated several workshops and discussions and we were also able to handout a complete packet of JIFM information.

We were also accompanied by a Houston Chronicle Reporter who was there to report on JIFM's participation and the stories of the girls who went. The experience was empowering and met great leaders with one common goal and that is: Immigrant Rights and the passage of the DREAM Act.

We would like to THANK CCC for the opportunity and hope that we are always kept in mind for other conferences!

JIFM will be helping in organizing a Student Empowerment Summit along with other organizations and people. (Time, Date, Location TBA)

We had a great brainstorming meeting were a table of at least 15 people from high school students and independent activists, to college students came together to create an educational agenda for high school students.

The Tejano Association for Historical Preservation Lorenzo de Zavala Chapter presents the 7th Annual Cesar E. Chavez Hispanic Pride Parade and Celebration in recognition of our Unions. The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 716 will serve as the Parade Marshal. This parade will be in the same manner of the march held over 40 years ago when Cesar Chavez led a group of workers out of California’s vineyards on a 300 mile march, la peregrinacion, (the pilgrimage).

The April 10th Coalition NEEDS YOU!!

Many organizations are on board and more are joining. A diverse cross-section of the city will participate.

There are tons of things the Coalition will need help with to conduct this March and Rally.

***It is also an economic boycott- we're asking people not to buy anything on that day, and skip work if possible (like in "Day without a Mexican").

***We're also asking that students be picked up by parents from school after noon (to avoid punishment or an unexcused absence).
