Just a reminder, there are people organizing protests for April 10th, and was even advertised on Spanish news stations. I just want everyone to please remind others to wave an American flag! We are supposed to be "proud of our home country, but prouder to be in America." This is not a debate, everyone knows how proud we are from where we came from, but waving a huge Mexican, Salvadorian, etc. flag will only make us look bad. If you're THAT proud, wave your home country flag, but have an American one as well. Please spread this message and let everyone know that we're supposed to support the American flag, because after all, this is where we want to remain!

also from the first comment, I would like to add that in order to get our voice louder, people should get banners with the vast position jobs that immigrants contributes in USA society, so we can show how important is the necessity of immigrants in USA.

i wanted to say that i think all of this activeness and publicity is great, it's what we wanted...but, the cougar daily had an article today about the sit-in and i was bothered by some of the language quoted by supporters...there was a quote that labeled undocumented immigrants as "illegal" peoples, and a second quote with the label "alien"...i know language can seem frivolous but these were possible jifm members and people are looking to us as the experts, we're supposed to be educated about the issues and if we use language like this, it only validates the use from others...so please be careful because it could end up in print. thanks for listening.

I have been following the immigration legislation for sometime and urging my parishioners to call our senators as I have. Politicians only listen to two things: money and votes. I read of a boycott of Miller Beer in Chicago that got a lot of press. On www.opensecrets.org you can find who gives money to our legislators. You can find out that Valero gives thousands to Cornyn and Home Depot only gives only to Republicans. I plan to be at the rally, but I think the people calling for boycotts of schools are getting out the wrong message. Why not find out where the money comes from and organize boycotts of those businesses? This would follow the tradition of Cesar Chavez and MLK.

Yeah... That is something we are working on trying to draft letters and get our facts correct to do what they did against miller.

Someone who is interested in writing letters wrote:

The major supporters of John Cornyn are TXU, the gas company; AT&T, owner of SBC and Cingular; Valero, owner of refineries, Diamond Shamrock gas stations, and Valero gas stations; and Clearchannel Communications, owner of various TV and radio stations. I have not found the contact information for these companies. For Clearchannel, I think that we should write or call their stations, a list of which can be found on their website. I also have information on the Texas representatives that co-authored HR4437, and I can write them and their supporters letters.

Great comment by "annonymous"! Right on point. IF you are not proud to be in America....then go home. It is about respect. I, as a white American, sympatize with the plight of some illegal aliens. I do not sympathize with you and will fight against you when you try to make this an American vs Mexico (or Salvador, etc) fight. This IS America, whether you like it or not...you ARE illegally here! But many like me can easily be conviced that we need to change laws to "help" you in your plight. But, you MUST show respect and waving huge Mexican flags in the streets of the country where you are illegally here shows disrespect and is not very smart politically.

IF you don't show respect, you will be fought against by not only me but the majority of Americans. Show respect....and we will help you. If you do not really like this country, have enough self-respect to GO HOME!! If you like our country, join us, learn our language, and let's make the American dream even better! I welcome you with open arms.

Hi Last anonymous,

My name is Julita and i believe that u have been writing comments here lately that are often times full of anger and some sort of feeling that i would like to called: "being afraid" of i don't understand what truly.

I respect your comments and i can only say that waving the Mexican flag is a scapegoat feeling that u like many more people use to really portray what is going on. I proudly wave MY MEXICAN FLAG which is more than u could ever understand. I also proudly wave the American flag which is one that i respect, but is also full of pain and blood. If u really want to talk about the meaning of flags then please by all means lets do, but do not get confuse with issues here. We must get our brains working in two separate entities. Are we talking about flags as one issue that pertains only to patriotism or second: are we talking about my brothers and sisters, along with me, which are living in this contry that enrages you?

If what u want is assimilation by all the immigrants living in this country then u are wasting your time. You really need to get out of the box and think wider. Are u suggesting perhaps slapping the hands of all those that wave the mexican flag and wash it off and make them all speak English? I am sorry to break it to you, but here ur arguments come to the surface as solely obtuse and honestly racist.

I would also suggest you to get on some reading and really look at the world anonymous. Look at the issues that really affect our economy and if u do some real serching you would find out that we are talking about globalization here. It is no surprise that my sister in Ciudad Juarez is making about 30 dollars every month as a result of the corporations that keep taking over our countries.

Respect..... well, i am only 21 years old and a student who is learning evertday in life, but according to what i have learned: respect is about really understanding people, not judging and being an indivudual who chooses to be and not being bought into a mind-set such as the one that i sadly perceive yours to be a part of.

Helping us? Well anonymous, i can respond to that as you really learning your history and really doing some soul searching as to what an American really is. I am sadden to point out that you are just one of the many people out there who choose not to read and learn history. Even sadder it is to read the words that you continue to post on our blog that are trully full of hate and geez.... ignorace i am afraid.

If you really knew better then you'd understant that EDUCATION is a right that u cannot deny to human beings.

May you be enlightened and may you find some peace in that heart of ours.

Peace Anonymous (last).

Juli thanks for the response to "anonymous".... It is people like them that we need not to waste our time on...

Though i feel like you juli, this anonynous person MUST watch too much "hate TV" and hear too much "hate radio"....

Come-on "these" protest are about EDUCATION and the right to contribute fully to society after they graduate from college something you might lack... the right to contribute and fulfill their civic duties as many have been doing for years without other noticing!!! speaking the language, paying taxes, serving as volunteers: registering citizens to vote, organize successfull events and serve as an example for those citizens dropping out of school.

My friends are as American as I am and they deserve an opportunity to become leaders in this country wether you like it or not...

The other reason why we protest, is one that needs to be recognized and that is the fact that this country wants immigrants to continue making this country stronger:economically, yet this system doesn't want to compensate them for their hard work and consumer power....

Who are you calling an immigrant: Pilgrims?
